Thu Jan 23 19:51:35 IST 2025: ## Train Collision Kills Six in Maharashtra

**Jalgaon, Maharashtra:** A tragic train accident near Jalgaon, Maharashtra, has resulted in the deaths of at least six people and left several injured. The incident occurred between Jalgaon and Pachora stations when passengers aboard the Pushpak Express mistook smoke emanating from beneath the train for a fire. Panic ensued, causing passengers to jump from the train onto the tracks where they were struck by an oncoming Karnataka Express.

The smoke, a common occurrence resulting from engine heat, brake application, or wheel friction, sparked the deadly stampede. Similar incidents, albeit without fatalities, have been reported recently, including an incident involving the Seemanchal Express just the day before and a previous incident three years ago with the Somnath-Jabalpur Express. While train wheel friction often generates smoke and sparks, it rarely ignites the train itself. However, in this instance, the resulting panic and subsequent collision with another train led to a devastating loss of life. Investigations into the exact cause of the accident are underway.
