Thu Jan 23 17:31:48 UTC 2025: ## Vellore Pharmacy Raided, 35 Liters of Methanol Seized
**Vellore, January 24, 2025** – A joint operation by revenue authorities and police in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, resulted in the seizure of 35 liters of methanol from a pharmacy and its godowns. The raid, led by Revenue Divisional Officer K. Malathi, uncovered five liters of the industrial chemical during a surprise inspection of the pharmacy in the town’s main bazaar. A further 30 liters were subsequently found in the pharmacy’s godowns, located in the Old Town area.
The pharmacy and its godowns have been sealed. Preliminary investigations indicate that the pharmacy owner, V. Kasturi Rangan (53), illegally procured the methanol from Andhra Pradesh for resale to private clinics and laboratories.
This seizure comes on the heels of a tragic hooch incident in Karunapuram, Kallakurichi, in June 2024, which claimed over 65 lives. A case has been registered against Rangan, and an investigation is underway.
