**NEW DELHI, January 24, 2025** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has dramatically altered its campaign narrative on jobs ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, shifting from boasting about creating millions of jobs to acknowledging a serious unemployment crisis.
For years, AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, claimed to have generated 10 lakh (1 million) jobs in Delhi, a figure cited in multiple state election campaigns. However, Kejriwal has spent this week’s election rallies emphasizing unemployment as his top priority, admitting that Delhi’s youth are struggling to find work.
This about-face follows an RTI request revealing that the government’s claim of 10 lakh jobs was based on “sample surveys” and lacked concrete data. The party’s flagship Rozgar Bazaar job portal, touted as a key component of its job creation strategy, has been non-functional for two years, and its successor, Rozgar Bazaar 2.0, remains stalled due to inter-departmental conflicts. Further, planned job fairs have been hampered by alleged bureaucratic hurdles and disagreements between the AAP government and the Lieutenant Governor.
AAP insiders attribute the shift in messaging to feedback reflecting widespread public concern over unemployment. The party’s previous “Rozgar Budget,” promising 20 lakh jobs over five years, has yielded negligible results, with most announced projects failing to materialize. The party now faces the challenge of convincing voters that its new focus on jobs is genuine, particularly given its past unsubstantiated claims.
