**Bengaluru, January 24, 2025** – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the implementation of a market system for organic products within the state’s Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) starting next financial year. The announcement was made at the inauguration of the International Trade Fair – Organics and Millets 2025, held at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru.
The Chief Minister emphasized the state government’s commitment to promoting millet farming, highlighting Karnataka’s position as the third-largest producer of millets in India. He stressed the need for a minimum selling price (MSP) for millets, a long-standing demand from farmers, urging the Union government to sanction it. Siddaramaiah also highlighted existing government initiatives such as the 2017 organic farming policy and the 2013 Organic Bhagya Yojana, aimed at boosting organic farming and awareness. He personally connected with the cause, mentioning his family’s own millet cultivation and referencing the proverb “ragi thindavanu nirogi” (the one who eats ragi will not have any disease).
This year’s three-day fair features a new AI tool, “Mili,” which guides visitors through the event using QR codes, providing information on stalls, workshops, and other activities.
