**Thiruvananthapuram, January 23, 2025** – The Kerala government has lifted its ban on Navamukunda Higher Secondary School and Mar Basil Higher Secondary School from participating in the upcoming State school sports meet. The ban, imposed on January 2nd following protests at the 2024 Kerala School Sports & Games valedictory, was overturned after the schools expressed regret and committed to preventing future disruptions.

General Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced the reversal in the Assembly Thursday, citing Chief Minister intervention and appeals from various stakeholders, including the opposition, sports minister, MLAs, MPs, and student organizations. The decision prioritizes avoiding negative impacts on students’ participation in sports, including national events.

While the ban is lifted, Minister Sivankutty clarified that the teachers involved in the protests have not yet formally acknowledged their misconduct. An inquiry is underway led by the General Education Principal Secretary, based on a three-member committee’s report, to determine further action against the teachers. The outcome of this inquiry will inform any subsequent disciplinary measures.
