**Silchar, Assam –** Four boys were detained in Silchar, Assam, after assaulting an eighth-grade Muslim student who refused to chant “Jai Shree Ram,” police confirmed. The incident occurred Wednesday in the Chandrapur area as the victim was walking home from Narsing School in the Madhurbandh area.
According to police sources, the boys accosted the student, alleging he had written something objectionable on a classroom wall. They physically assaulted him, forcing him to sit and chant the Hindu slogan while filming the incident. The video was subsequently shared on social media.
Following the video’s viral spread, the victim’s family filed a police complaint at the Chandrapur police station. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. While the four boys were initially detained, police sources later confirmed they were released in the evening. The nature of the ongoing investigation remains unclear.
