**New Delhi –** Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya was formally sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court today in a ceremony at Raj Niwas. The oath of office was administered by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering, including Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, senior government officials, sitting judges of the Delhi High Court, legal professionals, and other dignitaries.
Justice Upadhyaya’s appointment follows a notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice last week, confirming his transfer from the Bombay High Court. He succeeds Justice Vibhu Bakhru, who served as acting Chief Justice. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the transfer in January, a decision subsequently approved by the President of India in consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
Justice Upadhyaya, a 1991 Lucknow University law graduate, boasts a distinguished legal career. He practiced civil and constitutional law at the Allahabad High Court before being appointed as an additional judge there in 2011, becoming a permanent judge in 2013. He served as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court before his recent appointment.
