**Chennai, January 22, 2025** – A special court in Chennai has sentenced a former sub-inspector, Kalaiselvi, to five years imprisonment and a fine of ₹1 lakh for accepting a ₹2,000 bribe in 2013. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) investigated the case, which stemmed from a dispute between building contractor J. Selvarajan and an individual named Alagesan. After Alagesan threatened Selvarajan, Kalaiselvi, then serving at the Velachery police station, demanded the bribe to resolve the matter. Selvarajan reported the incident to the DVAC, leading to Kalaiselvi’s arrest during the bribe transaction.
