**MUMBAI** – Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” continues to struggle at the Indian box office. The film, a biopic on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, saw its daily collections plummet on Tuesday, reaching approximately ₹1 crore, bringing its five-day total to ₹12.40 crore. This represents a significant drop from its opening day’s ₹2.5 crore. The film’s overall theatrical occupancy on Tuesday was a mere 7.09 percent.
While the daily collections have fallen, “Emergency” has surpassed the debut film of Aaman Devgn and Rasha Thadani, “Azaad,” which has grossed ₹5.75 crore domestically. However, “Emergency,” produced on a reported budget of ₹60 crore, has only recovered approximately 20.78 percent of its costs. To break even, the film needs a substantial increase in box office performance.
Despite the poor showing, “Emergency” marks Kangana Ranaut’s highest-grossing film since the COVID-19 pandemic, outperforming previous releases like “Thalaivii,” “Dhaakad,” and “Tejas.” The film, which stars an ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and Milind Soman, opened in theaters on January 17. The film’s future box office success remains uncertain.
