Tue Jan 21 20:27:36 UTC 2025: ## Delhi CM Seeks Paramilitary Deployment Amidst Election Tensions

**New Delhi, January 22, 2025** – Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for Kalkaji, has requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to deploy paramilitary forces in her constituency. In a letter to the returning officer, Ms. Atishi alleged that BJP workers, linked to her rival Ramesh Bidhuri, have threatened AAP volunteers. She cited these threats as jeopardizing a free and fair election and the safety of AAP workers.

The BJP dismissed the allegations, claiming the letter reflects AAP’s fear of defeat. Party spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor stated that both Ms. Atishi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal are sensing defeat in their respective constituencies. He accused AAP of attempting to shift blame onto the BJP and the ECI.

Ms. Atishi also accused the ECI of inaction against Mr. Bidhuri for his allegedly abusive comments towards her. Mr. Kejriwal echoed these concerns on X (formerly Twitter), accusing BJP members of hooliganism and alleging that the police are collaborating with them under the direction of Amit Shah. He further claimed that the BJP’s actions stem from frustration over their anticipated electoral losses. The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5th. Congress’ Alka Lamba is also contesting the Kalkaji seat.
