**ST JOHN’S, Antigua –** Hayley Matthews smashed a magnificent century to lead West Indies Women to a dominant nine-wicket victory over Bangladesh Women in the first One Day International of their three-match series.
Bangladesh, after being asked to bat first, started promisingly with Sharmin Akhter (42) and Murshida Khatun (40) putting on a solid partnership. However, West Indies captain Matthews broke the backbone of the innings, dismissing both batters and triggering a collapse. Bangladesh eventually managed only 198/9 in their 50 overs, with Deandra Dottin taking 3 wickets for 40 runs.
The target proved to be no challenge for the West Indies. Matthews anchored the chase with a breathtaking unbeaten 104, studded with sixteen fours, while opening partner Qiana Joseph provided explosive support with a 70-run knock featuring four sixes. The pair guided West Indies to victory in just 31.3 overs, securing a commanding 1-0 lead in the series.
