**Tiruchi, January 21, 2025** – Construction is set to begin on a new Olympic Academy in Elandapatti, on the outskirts of Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu. The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) has awarded a contract for the ₹150 crore project, which will be built on a 47-acre site.
The academy’s first phase, budgeted at ₹50 crore, will include a football field, 400-meter track, track and field arena, changing rooms, sanitation facilities, a players’ lounge, and courts for racquet sports such as tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Future phases will add a swimming pool and hockey ground. The academy will also feature student hostels, a gym, and academic and administrative blocks.
A contractor has already begun site preparation, and the foundation stone laying ceremony is expected later this week. The entire project is anticipated to be completed within 18 months. An SDAT consultant will oversee construction to ensure adherence to standards.
