**TENKASI, January 21, 2025** – A Village Administrative Officer (VAO) in Rajagopalaperi, Tamil Nadu, has been arrested for accepting a bribe. Padmavathi, 52, was apprehended by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing on Tuesday after she demanded ₹4,500 from S. Kumaravel, who had applied for a property name transfer.
Kumaravel initially approached Padmavathi on January 6th to transfer his father’s house name in the land records. After submitting the application, he was repeatedly asked for a bribe, eventually agreeing to pay ₹4,500 after negotiations. He subsequently filed a complaint with the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing, leading to Padmavathi’s arrest in a sting operation overseen by Deputy Superintendent of Police Paul Sudhar. The operation involved Inspector Jayashree and Sub-Inspector Ravi. The arrest highlights ongoing corruption concerns within local administration in the region.
