Mon Jan 20 17:37:04 UTC 2025: ## Tripura Monitors Bangladesh Dam Construction Near Border

**Agartala, January 21, 2025** – The Tripura government is closely monitoring the construction of a dam near the Bangladesh border in Unakoti district, following concerns raised by local officials and the opposition Congress party. While the Border Security Force (BSF) has not taken direct action, describing the structure as a pedestrian and small vehicle pathway, a team from Tripura’s Public Works Department visited the site on Monday to assess the situation.

Congress MLA Birajit Sinha voiced concerns that the dam’s proximity to the border could cause severe waterlogging in Kailashahar during the monsoon season. He accused the government of a soft stance on the issue, alleging that the area is a Congress stronghold. His concerns were echoed by fellow party member Mohammad Badruzaman.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the issue on Saturday. Despite these concerns, the BSF has not yet held a flag meeting with their Bangladeshi counterparts to discuss the matter. The state government awaits the PWD’s report before deciding on further action.
