Tue Jan 21 13:57:35 UTC 2025: ## Suryakumar Yadav Accepts Champions Trophy Snub, Focuses on T20I Captaincy

**MUMBAI, INDIA** – India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has accepted his omission from the 15-member squad for the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy. While acknowledging the disappointment of not making the cut, Yadav attributed his exclusion to his inconsistent performance in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

“It hurts,” Yadav admitted to reporters. “If I had performed well in ODIs, I would have been in the Champions Trophy squad. But if I don’t perform well, you have to accept it.” He added that he was happy for the selected players, describing the squad as a strong and deserving team.

Yadav’s ODI struggles are well-documented. Despite a promising start, he has averaged just 25.76 in 37 matches, failing to score a single century in the format. His last ODI appearance, in the World Cup final, yielded only 18 runs. This contrasts sharply with his dominant T20I career, where he boasts 2,570 runs, four centuries, and a strike rate of 167.86. His high-risk approach and lack of a consistent batting position in ODIs have been cited as contributing factors to his exclusion.

Despite the setback, Yadav will continue to lead India in the upcoming five-match T20I series against England. The Champions Trophy squad, captained by Rohit Sharma, includes Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja.
