Tue Jan 21 14:22:48 UTC 2025: ## Indian Stock Market Plunges After Trump’s Inauguration
**Mumbai, India** – India’s stock market experienced a significant downturn on Tuesday, the day after Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex plummeted 1,235.08 points to close at 75,838.36, while the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty fell 299.45 points to 23,045.30. This represents a loss of approximately ₹5 lakh crore (approximately $60 billion USD) for investors.
Experts attribute the sharp decline to several factors, including weak quarterly earnings from several companies, fears of increased tariffs under the Trump administration, and continued selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs). Trump’s previous statements regarding tariffs on BRICS nations, of which India is a member, contributed to investor anxiety. FIIs have withdrawn ₹48,023 crore from the Indian market in January 2025 alone.
The decline affected nearly all indices, with notable losses seen in companies like Zomato (down 10.16%), Newgen Software, Tata Motors, TCS, Reliance, and ITC. Experts predict continued market volatility in the coming days.
