**Patna, Bihar –** Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani was briefly hospitalized in Patna on Monday after experiencing discomfort during the 85th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference. The 77-year-old speaker was treated at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology for acidity and discharged later that evening, returning to Jaipur by special plane.
Mr. Devnani’s hospitalization prompted a swift response, with a team of doctors dispatched from Rajasthan at the direction of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Medical & Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also visited the hospital to check on Mr. Devnani’s condition.
The two-day conference, inaugurated by Mr. Birla, focused on the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution and the role of parliamentary bodies in upholding constitutional values. Speakers and Deputy Speakers from state assemblies across India attended.
Mr. Devnani, a five-term MLA from Ajmer North and a prominent figure in the BJP, served twice as Rajasthan’s Education Minister, implementing policies such as mandatory Saraswati Vandana and Surya Namaskar in schools. His appointment as Speaker was seen as a move to enhance caste diversity within the state government. He was accompanied by State Assembly’s Special Secretary Bharat Bhushan Sharma. Following his treatment, he had to postpone planned visits to several pilgrimage sites in Bihar.
