**Puducherry, January 21, 2025** – Following a recent fatal accident involving underage motorists, Puducherry police launched a crackdown on minors riding two-wheelers. A joint operation on Monday resulted in the interception of 23 two-wheelers driven by minors. Parents of the children were summoned and informed about the illegality of unlicensed driving, the penalties under the Motor Vehicle Act (including a ₹25,000 fine and one-year license suspension), and their responsibility in preventing such incidents. While the vehicles were released after a warning, repeat offenders face license suspension. The police also continue their helmet awareness campaigns in schools and workplaces, with one such program held at Bharathidasan Government Women’s College resulting in a commitment from the principal to mandate helmet use for students. The police plan to expand these initiatives to rural areas.
