KOCHI, INDIA – January 21, 2025 – Rithu Jayan, 27, the alleged perpetrator in the brutal Chendamangalam triple murder case, has been granted five days of police custody by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in North Paravur. Jayan is accused of killing Venu (65), his wife Usha (62), and their daughter Vinisha (32) on Thursday evening. Venu’s son-in-law, Jithin (35), remains hospitalized in critical condition following a neurosurgery.

A 17-member police investigation team is probing the incident. Police are currently interrogating Jayan to establish a motive and are collecting evidence. The accused is expected to be taken to the crime scene following the completion of ongoing proceedings, a move requiring significant security measures due to public anger. Jayan was reportedly attacked by a mob when he appeared in court on Friday, and his family home was subsequently ransacked. Two individuals were arrested and released on bail in connection with the house attack.

The police investigation highlights a history of acrimony between Jayan and the victims. The family had filed a complaint against Jayan in November 2024 alleging verbal abuse of women, prompting a counter-petition from Jayan’s father.
