Mon Jan 20 16:19:14 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Forest Minister Threatens Action Against “Kantara” Film Crew
**Bengaluru, January 20, 2025** – Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre announced today that the film crew of “Kantara: Chapter 1” faces potential legal action for alleged violations of filming permits in the Gavi Betta forests of Hassan district. The crew, working under Hombale Films, obtained permission to film for 23 days on gomala land adjacent to the forest. However, reports of the crew using firecrackers, disturbing local wildlife, prompted an investigation. Minister Khandre stated that if the investigation confirms violations, shooting will be halted and action initiated against the production.
Separately, the Minister addressed ongoing legal battles involving the Yash-starrer “Toxic,” confirming a filed FIR against the producers and a court-issued stay order. The minister stated that efforts are underway to overturn this stay.
Furthermore, Khandre announced action against forest officials who filed a Supreme Court interlocutory application without cabinet approval regarding 443 acres of HMT forest land. The application, claiming the land had lost its forest character, is to be withdrawn, he added. The minister also criticized HMT’s valuation of the land sold, asserting that the state will not allow real estate development in the area.
Finally, the Minister confirmed the upcoming February inauguration of a memorial dedicated to Dasara elephant Arjuna, whose death in December 2023 caused public mourning. The memorial was initially planned for the anniversary of his death but faced technical delays. A second memorial is being erected at Balle elephant camp in Nagarahole forest.
