**NAGAPATTINAM, Tamil Nadu, January 21, 2025** – A damaged bamboo raft, possibly from Myanmar, and a navigation buoy were discovered on the Vedaranyam coast on Monday, sparking an investigation by local authorities.
The bamboo raft, appearing to be a fishing vessel, was found near Maniyanthivu with its upper section significantly damaged but its base intact. Nearby, a bright red, non-functional navigation buoy, typically used in harbors to mark water depth, was also discovered. Both items showed signs of prolonged exposure to seawater.
Vedaranyam Marine Police suspect the raft was carried by strong currents, while the buoy likely drifted from a maritime facility. An investigation into the origin and circumstances of their arrival is underway.
