**Kolkata, India –** England have named a formidable squad for their opening T20 International against India at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday, January 22nd. The team features the return of fast bowler Gus Atkinson, who hasn’t played for England since December 2023. Atkinson, along with Jofra Archer, Jamie Overton, and Mark Wood, will form a potent pace attack. Adil Rashid is the lone specialist spinner, supported by Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell.
The squad arrived in India on January 18th, with Liam Livingstone arriving directly from the SA20 league in South Africa. The team completed training sessions in Dubai before their arrival.
England’s playing XI will be: Ben Duckett, Phil Salt (WK), Jos Buttler (C), Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.
England holds a slight edge in the overall head-to-head record against India in T20Is (11 wins out of 24), but their record in India is less impressive (5 wins out of 11). Their last bilateral T20I series win in India came in 2011. India won the last series between the two teams 3-2, and also defeated England convincingly in the semi-final of the Men’s T20 World Cup. This match promises to be a high-stakes encounter as England aim to turn the tables on their rivals.
