Tue Jan 21 05:59:32 UTC 2025: ## Jaishankar Attends Trump’s Inauguration Amidst Controversial Policies

**Washington D.C.** – Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a prominent position at the inauguration of President Donald Trump, seated in the front row of the Capital Rotunda ceremony. The minister described the event as a “great honour,” attending as India’s special envoy. His presence alongside a star-studded lineup of tech CEOs including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook, Mark Zuckerberg, and Sundar Pichai, further highlighted the significance of the occasion.

Mr. Jaishankar also engaged in meetings with key members of the Trump administration, including Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and FBI nominee Kash Patel. He also briefly met with Vivek Ramaswamy, recently departed from the Department of Government Efficiency.

The inauguration, held amidst freezing -8 degree Celsius temperatures, saw the attendance of several other international leaders including Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Argentina’s President Javier Milei, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, and China’s Vice President Han Zheng. The location, notably the site of the January 6th, 2021 attack on the Capitol, added a layer of historical significance to the event.

In his inaugural address, President Trump outlined a highly nationalistic agenda. He pledged to reverse environmental regulations, including the Paris Climate Accord, boost domestic fossil fuel production, and implement stricter immigration policies. Further fueling concerns of protectionism, Trump also vowed to impose new trade tariffs, rename the Gulf of Mexico, and reclaim control of the Panama Canal. His speech marked a dramatic return to power after his defeat in the 2020 election.
