Tue Jan 21 09:23:48 UTC 2025: ## Gemini Circus Returns to Coimbatore with Thrilling New Acts

**COIMBATORE, January 21, 2025** – Gemini Circus, a legacy institution in Indian circus history, has returned to Coimbatore after a pandemic hiatus, dazzling audiences with a spectacular array of new acts. The show, running until February 25th, features death-defying acrobatics, including a newly introduced Mexican wheel act performed at speeds up to 20 mph, and breathtaking performances by an all-women cycling acrobatics team.

Managing partner Ajay Shankar, son of the late Gemini Sankaran, a pioneer of modern Indian circus, emphasized the constant innovation required to maintain the circus’s popularity. New additions include robotic animals and a captivating “guddi” act, featuring a cloaked performer doubling as a male doll. An African troupe contributes thrilling pole stunts and a fiery dance performance, while the traditional globe of death and other classic acts continue to thrill.

Shankar highlighted the challenges facing the Indian circus industry, including the impact of bans on animal acts and child performers. He stressed the need for rigorous early-age training and called for increased government support, including concessions for travel, utilities, and artist recognition awards, to ensure the survival of this art form. The 160-member troupe, comprising artists from across India and Nepal, embodies the family atmosphere and dedication that defines the Gemini Circus legacy, having served as a backdrop for iconic films like *Mera Naam Joker* and *Apoorva Sagodharargal*.

The circus, located at the Kolatheri Venkatalakshmi Kalyanamandapam grounds, offers three shows daily at 1 pm, 4 pm, and 7 pm. Tickets are available on BookMyShow and at the venue.
