**Atlanta, GA –** The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) announced today that 74 schools have been identified for Targeted Support & Improvement (TSI) for the 2024-2025 school year. This designation, mandated by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), highlights schools with one or more consistently underperforming student subgroups.
The announcement follows a revised identification process implemented in 2023, aligning with an updated state ESSA plan approved by the U.S. Department of Education. This year’s TSI list focuses solely on targeted support, as Comprehensive Support & Improvement (CSI) schools were identified in 2024 on a three-year cycle.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting these schools. “The identification of TSI schools allows us to provide resources and support where they are needed most,” Woods stated. “We look forward to partnering with these districts and schools to improve educational outcomes for every student.”
The GaDOE also celebrated the progress made by several schools. Fifty-two CSI schools earned the new “CSI Progress” designation for demonstrating a 5% increase in their CCRPI Content Mastery component score and achieving a score of 80 or higher in at least one other component (Progress, Closing Gaps, or Readiness). Notably, 90% of CSI schools assisted by the GaDOE’s Office of School and District Improvement showed gains in the Content Mastery component. Furthermore, five schools exited CSI status due to improved graduation rates, exceeding the 67% threshold, and three schools exited TSI identification after making significant progress.
While school districts are responsible for providing support to TSI schools, the GaDOE’s Office of School Improvement will offer professional learning and technical assistance. The full list of TSI schools and further information on the identification process is available [insert link here].
