Mon Jan 20 18:17:44 UTC 2025: ## Three Kerala Police Officers Injured in Alleged Assault During Liquor Smuggling Investigation

**Kozhikode, Kerala – January 20, 2025** – Three police officers were injured in an alleged assault by a four-member gang in Kozhikode district on Sunday evening. The officers, including a woman sub-inspector, were on patrol duty when they attempted to investigate a vehicle suspected to be involved in illicit liquor smuggling.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Narikkuni, when the officers – Sub-inspector V. Jeeshma, assistant sub-inspector U.V. Dhinesh, and civil police officer K.K. Rajeesh – approached a group reportedly consuming alcohol in public. The officers sustained injuries during a subsequent altercation. They were treated at the Thamarassery Taluk Hospital.

A separate police team from Koduvally station apprehended the four suspects – Baburaj (60), K.P. Prasanth (42), Shanoop (42), and P.C. Rajesh (48) – later that night. All four suspects, residents of Kuttikkattur and Velliparamba, were remanded in judicial custody on Monday. The investigation into the alleged liquor smuggling continues.
