Tue Jan 21 15:44:43 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Govt Forms Expert Panel to Review School Calendar

**Thiruvananthapuram, January 21, 2025** – The Kerala government has established a five-member expert committee to thoroughly investigate the state’s school academic calendar. This follows a High Court ruling that overturned a decision by the Director of General Education to designate 25 Saturdays as school days for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The High Court’s decision mandated a review, incorporating input from stakeholders and experts, and ensuring compliance with the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act. Following consultations with stakeholders, including petitioners and teachers’ organizations, the government formed the committee.

The committee, chaired by V.P. Joshith (Head, Department of Education, Central University of Kerala), will determine the necessary instructional hours and days for curricular and co-curricular activities. Its mandate also includes finding solutions to any time deficits without compromising students’ well-being. Other committee members include Amar Fettle, Deepa Bhaskaran, Jayaraj S., and M.P. Narayanan Unni, all with expertise in education and child development.

The committee is tasked with submitting its report to the government within two months.
