Tue Jan 21 08:08:33 UTC 2025: ## Kangana Ranaut’s “Emergency” Fails Monday Test Despite Weekend Gains
**Mumbai, India** – Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” experienced a significant box office drop on Monday, failing the crucial Monday test. After a weekend showing some promise, the film’s earnings plummeted by over 75%, collecting an estimated ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD) on January 20th, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
This follows a Sunday gross of ₹4.25 crore. The film’s total India net collection now stands at ₹11.35 crore, while the worldwide gross is estimated at ₹12.3 crore. Monday’s occupancy rate was a mere 7.11%, with the highest viewership reported in Chennai and Mumbai.
Despite the significant drop, Manikarnika Films, Ranaut’s production banner, remains optimistic, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “The Momentum is Unstoppable! #Emergency is winning hearts and growing stronger every day!”
The film, a political drama depicting the 1975 Indian Emergency under Indira Gandhi, faced numerous delays, including censor issues and protests from Sikh organizations over alleged historical inaccuracies. It opened in theaters on January 17th, competing with other new releases. The film stars Ranaut as Indira Gandhi, alongside Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik.
