Tue Jan 21 09:22:54 UTC 2025: ## Kangana Ranaut’s “Emergency” Sees Box Office Dip After Strong Opening Weekend; London Protest Disrupts Screening

**Mumbai, India –** Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” experienced a decline in box office collections on its first Monday, despite a promising opening weekend. The film, a biopic on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the 1975 Emergency, earned ₹2.5 crore on Friday, ₹3.6 crore on Saturday, and ₹4.25 crore on Sunday, before dropping to approximately ₹1 crore on Monday. This brings the film’s total India box office gross to ₹11.35 crore. While the film’s occupancy rate fluctuated throughout the day on Monday, ranging from 4.37% in the morning to 8.93% in the evening shows, projections suggest it’s still on track to surpass ₹20 crore.

Meanwhile, the film’s release has been marred by controversy. Reports emerged of a disruption at a London screening on Sunday night. Masked Khalistani protestors stormed the Harrow Vue Cinema, shouting anti-India slogans and distributing leaflets about the Sikh genocide while the film was underway. The theatre was reportedly three-quarters full at the time of the incident.

The film, starring Ranaut alongside Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and others, opened alongside the debut film “Azaad” on January 17th. The incident in London adds another layer to the already complex narrative surrounding the film’s release.
