Tue Jan 21 16:54:32 UTC 2025: ## Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ Sees Box Office Dip After Strong Opening

**Mumbai, India –** Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut, “Emergency,” experienced a significant drop in box office earnings on its fourth day. The film, a biographical drama depicting India’s 1975-77 Emergency period, grossed only ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000 USD) domestically on Monday, according to Sacnilk. This brings the film’s total domestic collection to ₹11.35 crore (approximately $1.4 million USD). The film’s Hindi occupancy also fell to 7.11% on Monday.

The film, starring Ranaut as Indira Gandhi alongside Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and others, has faced controversy. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) demanded a ban on the film in Punjab, leading to restricted screenings in several cities. Police were deployed to maintain order outside cinemas.

Ranaut responded to the ban, calling it “complete harassment of art and the artist,” and denying accusations of misrepresenting Sikh history. She stated her respect for all religions and criticized the ban as a smear campaign. Despite the controversy and the box office dip, the film continues its theatrical run.
