Tue Jan 21 20:31:31 IST 2025: ## Injured Elephant Monitored in Athirappilly Forest
**THRISSUR, Kerala, January 21, 2025** – Forest officials are monitoring an injured elephant in the Athirappilly area of Ezhattumukham Forest Station. The elephant, discovered with a forehead wound likely sustained during an intra-species conflict, is showing no other signs of distress.
The animal, initially spotted in the Elichani-Parayanpara region, was observed again in Vadamuri on January 20th. It continues to feed, drink, and even bathe in the river, indicating a positive recovery. While the wound is expected to heal naturally, forest officials are taking a proactive approach.
A veterinary doctor is overseeing the situation, and a special team, led by Chief Veterinary Officer Arun Zacharia, is on standby for emergency care should the elephant show signs of exhaustion or infection. The officials have also indicated that sedation and advanced treatment are options if the natural healing process proves insufficient. Regular checks are being conducted across the Athirappilly range.
