**Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, January 22, 2025** – A 77-year-old man, Chinnathambi, received a new lease on life on Tuesday at the Krishnagiri Government Medical College Hospital. The hospital successfully fitted him with a prosthetic leg, marking the inaugural procedure for the newly established prosthetics division within the hospital’s orthopedic department.
Chinnathambi’s left leg was amputated after an injury led to severe decomposition. The prosthetic limb was provided free of charge under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. This represents a significant saving for the patient, as the hospital noted that a similar procedure in a private hospital would cost between ₹2 lakh and ₹3 lakh.
