**New Delhi, January 21, 2025** – Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai, of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has touted significant achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and pollution control in the run-up to the February 5th Assembly elections. In an interview with PTI, Rai claimed a 35% reduction in pollution levels and an increase in Delhi’s green cover since the AAP took office. He attributed the improvements to initiatives such as the introduction of electric buses and a 24/7 electricity supply.
Rai sharply criticized the BJP, accusing them of inaction on pollution and claiming that collaborative efforts could have reduced pollution by 70%. He highlighted improvements across Delhi, citing better roads, water supply, and infrastructure developments in previously neglected areas, particularly in his constituency, Babarpur. He emphasized the construction of new roads, sewer lines, and the establishment of 16 Mohalla Clinics and a mini-hospital in Babarpur.
Rai specifically focused on the Purvanchali community, asserting that the AAP government has improved their living conditions, modernized schools, and provided free healthcare and education. He claimed to enjoy overwhelming support from this demographic, estimating it at 90%. He addressed skepticism surrounding AAP’s initiatives, pointing to the successful implementation of free electricity and bus rides for women and the establishment of Mohalla Clinics as examples of delivering on promises.
Rai is confident of victory in the upcoming elections, citing the substantial development work undertaken in his constituency, Babarpur, where he won by a significant margin in the 2020 elections. He faces Anil Vashishth (BJP) and Haji Ishraq Khan (Congress) in the upcoming polls. The election results are expected on February 8th.
