**Belagavi, Karnataka, January 21, 2025** – A 25-foot-tall bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled today in front of the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, Karnataka. The impressive statue, weighing 25 tonnes and standing on a 12-foot podium, was sculpted by Mysuru-based artist Arun Yogiraj, known for his work on the Bala Rama statue for the Ayodhya Ram temple.
The unveiling ceremony, attended by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, also featured the release of a commemorative envelope depicting the statue and a special volume titled “Gandhi Bharat.” This book compiles Gandhiji’s speeches from the 1924 Belgaum session and related articles.
Assembly Speaker U. T. Khadar delivered an introductory speech emphasizing peace and communal harmony, highlighting the statue’s significance as a memorial to the historic 1924 session held in Belgaum (now Belagavi).
