**Beijing, January 20, 2025** – A 62-year-old man, Fan Weiqiu, has been executed in China for a deadly car attack that killed 35 and injured over 40 people last November. Fan, reportedly angered by a property dispute following his divorce, deliberately drove his car into a crowd exercising outside a Zhuhai sports center. The attack occurred just a day before a major air show in the city.
The Zhuhai Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Fan to death less than a month ago, citing his “extremely vile motive” and “particularly cruel methods.” State-run media, Xinhua, reported the execution on Monday. This incident is the latest in a series of public violence incidents that have plagued China in recent months. In July, a similar incident in Changsha claimed eight lives. Chinese authorities routinely attribute such attacks to disgruntled individuals.
