Mon Jan 20 14:37:57 UTC 2025: ## Death Sentence for Murder, 10-Year Term for Kidnapping in Sharon Raj Case
**Kochi, Kerala – January 20, 2025** – S. Greeshma, convicted in the murder of Sharon Raj, has been sentenced to death by hanging. However, the sentence is subject to confirmation by the Kerala High Court. In addition to the death penalty, Greeshma received a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence for kidnapping, along with a Rs 1 lakh fine (or an additional year in jail if unpaid). She also received a 5-year sentence for poisoning, with a Rs 50,000 fine (or six months additional jail). A further two-year sentence was imposed for providing false information, with no fine levied. A total fine of Rs 2 lakh was imposed for the murder.
Greeshma’s uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, was sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment for destruction of evidence, with a Rs 50,000 fine (or six months additional jail). All sentences will run concurrently.
The court has recommended that Sharon Raj’s parents receive victim compensation through the District Legal Services Authority. Any fines collected will also be awarded to the victim’s parents. Both Greeshma and Nair have 30 days to appeal the judgment. The death sentence will only be carried out after the High Court’s confirmation.
