Mon Jan 20 14:16:05 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Fish Cooperatives to Receive Boost from National Program

**Thiruvananthapuram, January 20, 2025** – The National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) has launched a program to strengthen India’s fishing sector by upgrading fish cooperatives into Fish Farmer Producer Organizations (FFPOs). This initiative, under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samriddhi Saha Yojana (PMMKSSY), aims to benefit 5,500 cooperatives nationwide.

In Kerala, approximately 188 cooperatives are set to receive funding, with the possibility of more being included. The state’s cooperatives are considered particularly strong. Each selected cooperative will receive ₹2 lakh in funding, allocated for gap analysis, business planning, office equipment, and training. Further financial assistance will be available for women and members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The NFDP is accepting applications from cooperatives, individuals, self-help groups, and companies via their website: https://nfdp.dof.gov.in. This program represents a significant investment in the sustainability and self-reliance of India’s fishing communities.
