Former President Ram Nath Kovind is already involved in the Kumbh’s organization.

Over seven crore pilgrims took a holy dip at the Sangam (confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers) on Sunday, with an estimated eight to ten crore expected for the Mauni Amavasya festival on January 29th. The Chief Minister highlighted the overwhelming response from both domestic and international visitors, including European tourists deeply moved by the experience and chanting Sanskrit mantras.

Chief Minister Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of the Mela grounds, confirming the presence of over one crore people. He emphasized the smooth coordination between central and state government departments to ensure the safety and convenience of this massive gathering, praising the event’s grand scale and Prime Minister Modi’s vision. He personally forwent holy dips on Makar Sankranti and Paush Purnima to focus on facilitating the pilgrims’ experience.

To manage the anticipated crowds for Mauni Amavasya and Basant Panchami (February 3rd), Adityanath directed officials to implement one-way traffic on pontoon bridges, declare the Mela area a no-vehicle zone on these days, and enhance security measures. A state cabinet meeting is scheduled for January 22nd at the Kumbh Mela itself.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of robust communication, cleanliness, and crowd management systems, particularly for Republic Day and the upcoming major bathing events. He directed railway authorities to ensure sufficient “Mela Special” trains to accommodate the large influx and outflow of devotees, suggesting potential adjustments to regular train schedules. Over 200 such trains are planned for Mauni Amavasya. The successful completion of the Mauni Amavasya and Basant Panchami Shahi Snans (royal baths) is anticipated with the blessings of Lord Prayagraj and Mother Ganga.
