Sun Jan 19 18:51:15 UTC 2025: ## PMK and VCK Trade Accusations Over Ranipet Violence

**Chennai, January 20, 2025** – A political spat has erupted between the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) following a violent incident in Nemili village, Ranipet district, where two young men suffered severe burns.

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss alleges that the perpetrators were VCK members or supporters. However, VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan vehemently denies this, accusing Dr. Ramadoss and PMK founder S. Ramadoss of attempting to incite social unrest.

The PMK cites circulated social media photographs showing individuals wearing VCK scarves and associating with VCK cadre as evidence. PMK spokesperson K. Balu further criticized Mr. Thirumavalavan, claiming he deviates from Dr. Ambedkar’s principles and that the PMK’s work has significantly reduced inter-caste clashes in the state’s northern districts.

In response, VCK deputy general secretary Vanni Arasu stated that their internal investigation revealed no VCK involvement. He points to the police investigation, which also dismissed caste or political motives, attributing the violence to personal reasons. Mr. Arasu suggests the PMK’s accusations are a deflection tactic, possibly aimed at diverting attention from internal PMK issues or the DMK’s plan to build a memorial for 21 Vanniyar martyrs. The incident continues to fuel tensions between the two parties.
