Salem, Tamil Nadu – January 20, 2025 – Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian today visited the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital in Salem and categorically denied any drug shortages in state-run hospitals. His visit included an inspection of the intensive care unit and scan center.
The Minister interacted with patients and their attendants, inquiring about the quality of service. He highlighted the increased patient volume, noting a rise from 3,000 to 4,500 daily outpatients since the DMK government came to power in 2021. He attributed this increase to improved public trust in government healthcare facilities.
Subramanian confirmed the availability of over 300 essential drugs in Salem’s government hospitals, inviting journalists to verify this claim. He assured that any reported issues would be promptly addressed. He also announced the commencement of inpatient treatment at the Ammapet Government Hospital.
Addressing concerns about water supply, the Minister stated that solutions are being sought to meet the Salem Government Hospital’s daily requirement of 1.2 million liters. Discussions are underway with the Salem Corporation Commissioner to improve the hospital’s water supply. He also praised the Salem Blood Bank, ranking it among the top three in the state, and announced plans for a new blood storage facility at the Salem Government Hospital.
Furthermore, the Minister revealed that the recruitment process for 2,553 doctors is nearing completion, with appointment orders expected to be issued by the Chief Minister within the next 15 days. He added that since 2021, 23,000 vaccine-related positions have been filled through various recruitment channels. District Collector R. Brindha Devi, Hospital Dean J. Devi Meenal, and other officials accompanied the Minister during his inspection.
