**UDHAGAMANDALAM, January 20, 2025** – A Nilgiris resident is accusing the local police of negligence after discovering vital parts missing from his pick-up truck, which was seized in 2020 and recently returned.
Nagaraj, the truck owner, claims that after paying a ₹17,700 fine as per a court order, he found his vehicle at the Pudumund Police Station stripped of its gearbox, spare tire, speedometer, and other essential components. He alleges that the police failed to safeguard his vehicle during the years it remained in their custody.
Nagaraj, who purchased the truck for ₹9 lakh and used it for transporting goods within the Nilgiris, stated that the vehicle is now unusable without the missing parts. He has filed petitions with both the Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police and the District Collector, demanding the return of his truck in its original condition, and compensation for lost income during the period of its seizure. He has not yet determined whether the parts were stolen while in police custody or if there is another explanation. The matter is currently under investigation.
