**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh:** A major fire broke out at the Gita Press camp in Sector 19 of the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela on Sunday afternoon. While the fire, which started around 4 PM, has been extinguished, it resulted in the complete destruction of 170 cottages and caused damage estimated in the crores. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.
Gita Press trustee Krishna Kumar Khemka stated that the fire originated outside their boundary, from an area where some individuals were residing. The flames quickly spread, engulfing the Gita Press camp, and were exacerbated by a gas cylinder explosion in one of the kitchens. Despite the extensive damage, Khemka confirmed that all personnel are safe. He attributed the incident to an unfortunate accident, denying any foul play.
The fire department and police responded swiftly, bringing the blaze under control by 5 PM. The fire also affected approximately 10 nearby tents. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the site and issued instructions to the authorities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inquired about the situation.
Khemka expressed confidence in resuming operations on Monday, emphasizing the unwavering spirit of the Gita Press and their commitment to continue their work. He highlighted the support received from the administration and expressed gratitude for their assistance.
