**Neyyattinkara, Kerala –** A Kerala sessions court delivered a death sentence to 24-year-old Greeshma on January 15, 2025, for the premeditated murder of her boyfriend, Sharon Raj. The shocking crime, which unfolded in October 2022, captivated the state with its chilling details and the accused’s calculated actions.
Greeshma, a postgraduate English student from Kanyakumari, had been in a relationship with Sharon, a final-year undergraduate from Thiruvananthapuram, since 2021. However, facing an impending marriage to a military officer arranged by her family, Greeshma allegedly plotted Sharon’s murder fearing he would reveal their relationship to her fiancé.
The prosecution presented evidence detailing Greeshma’s multiple attempts to poison Sharon using painkillers and, ultimately, a herbicide-laced ayurvedic drink. These attempts, spanning several weeks, culminated in Sharon’s death on October 25, 2022, from multiple organ failure. Before his death, Sharon confided in a friend about Greeshma’s poisoning and infidelity.
Greeshma’s arrest followed a complaint filed by Sharon’s family. Investigators uncovered evidence of her attempts to conceal her actions and confirmed her motive: preventing Sharon from revealing intimate photos and videos of their relationship. Greeshma confessed to her crimes during questioning.
Greeshma’s uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, received a three-year prison sentence for abetting the crime. Her mother, Sindhu, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The court found Greeshma guilty of premeditated murder, citing her meticulous planning and repeated attempts to eliminate Sharon. The death sentence reflects the gravity of the crime and the court’s assessment of her culpability. The case concludes a long and highly publicized trial.
