**Bengaluru, January 20, 2025** – Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to appoint new Information Commissioners in Karnataka within the next two days. A meeting on Monday with Minister K.J. George and Opposition Leader R. Ashok focused on selecting candidates to fill eight out of ten vacant posts within the Karnataka Information Commission.
Over 100 applicants, including several senior journalists, have applied for the positions, according to an RTI activist. The numerous vacancies have resulted in a significant backlog of RTI applications, raising concerns about transparency within the state administration. Currently, only two Information Commissioners are functioning at the Bengaluru Bench, with the Chief Information Commissioner’s post also vacant for several months. Information Commissioner H.C. Satyan is currently serving as acting Chief Information Commissioner.
