Bengaluru, January 20, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka is grappling with a significant internal power struggle ahead of a crucial core committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday night. The meeting, chaired by BJP national general secretary Radhamohan Das Agarwal, will address the upcoming election for the state party president and review organizational progress.
Tensions have escalated between two factions: one supporting state president B.Y. Vijayendra, and a rebel group led by senior leaders Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal and Ramesh Jarkiholi, who have openly criticized Vijayendra’s leadership. Supporters of Vijayendra reportedly plan to petition the central leadership to expel Yatnal and Jarkiholi.
The conflict has reportedly angered a neutral faction within the party, concerned that the infighting could harm the BJP’s electoral prospects. This group is reportedly pressuring the central leadership to resolve the dispute.
The announcement of elections for a new state president, made by Union Minister Shivaraj Singh Chouhan, has boosted Vijayendra’s supporters, who believe they have the support of most district units. However, Yatnal maintains the rebel group is confident of winning the election, reiterating allegations against Vijayendra.
The core committee meeting is expected to address these issues, taking place amidst a highly charged atmosphere within the Karnataka BJP.
