**New Delhi –** India has unveiled its squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy 2025, with Shubman Gill appointed as vice-captain. Rohit Sharma will lead the team in both tournaments. The Champions Trophy, last held in 2017, will be played in Dubai and features a highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash.
Gill’s appointment follows his impressive ODI record of 2328 runs in 47 matches and his captaincy stint in the Zimbabwe series in 2024. The opening pair is expected to be Gill and Sharma, with Virat Kohli batting at number three. Yashasvi Jaiswal, a yet-to-debut ODI player, also features in the squad.
The middle order will likely consist of KL Rahul (focusing solely on batting), Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), and Shreyas Iyer, who enjoyed strong recent form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the ODI World Cup 2023.
A significant boost to the bowling attack is the return of Mohammad Shami, who will feature in both the ODI and T20I series against England. Jasprit Bumrah’s participation is subject to fitness after his Border-Gavaskar Trophy injury. Arshdeep Singh joins the squad for the Champions Trophy. The spin department will be handled by Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar. All-rounders include Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. Harshit Rana will be included only for the England ODI series, providing cover until Bumrah’s return.
India’s Champions Trophy campaign begins on February 20, 2025, against Bangladesh, followed by matches against Pakistan (February 23) and New Zealand (March 2). The ODI series against England starts on February 6th in Nagpur.
