Sun Jan 19 13:30:01 UTC 2025: **Bangladesh Cricket Star Shakib Al Hasan Faces Arrest Warrant**

DHAKA, BANGLADESH—A Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant on Sunday for Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan over two bounced bank cheques. The warrant comes after Al Hasan, also a former Awami League MP and businessman, failed to appear in court regarding a case filed by the IFIC Bank. The bank issued a legal notice in October 2024 and filed the case in December, alleging bounced cheques related to Al Hasan’s agriculture farm, Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm.

Al Hasan, currently residing in the United States, has not returned to Bangladesh citing fears for his safety following civil unrest and the flight of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last year. His last Test match was against India in Kanpur, and he is expected to play his last game for Bangladesh in the upcoming Champions Trophy in Dubai. He is currently banned from bowling due to a suspect action.

Two other officials from Al Hasan’s farm, which has been reportedly inactive since 2021, appeared in court and were granted bail. The court has ordered police to submit a report on the execution of the arrest warrant by March 24. The case highlights the legal troubles facing the celebrated cricketer, who was elected MP in January 2024.
