**Chennai, January 20, 2025** – The BJP in Tamil Nadu announced a significant boost in its membership, claiming 48 lakh (“4.8 million”) verified members joined in the first phase of its ongoing drive. Party president K. Annamalai revealed this at a function in Tiruchengode, where he also unveiled the newly elected presidents of 33 district units. The two-phase drive aims to recruit a total of one crore (“10 million”) members, with the party possessing contact information for all new recruits.
Annamalai urged party workers to intensify efforts to secure a BJP victory in the 2026 state elections. He criticized the state government’s handling of education, noting its claim of needing 10,000 new schools while allegedly failing to support the Centre’s PM-SHRI school initiative. He also expressed concern over rising caste violence and crimes against women in the state, citing incidents of chain snatchings even at Pongal celebrations organized by the police in Chennai.
