Mon Jan 20 06:40:00 UTC 2025: **Ration Card List Sparks Outrage in Telangana Village**
NARSIMHULAPETA, January 19 – The release of a new ration card list by the Congress government has caused widespread confusion and anger in the village of Vantadapala, Mahabubabad district. Villagers claim the list is riddled with errors, including the inclusion of ineligible individuals and the omission of many deserving applicants.
The list, released following a recent caste census, was intended to determine eligibility for government welfare schemes such as the Atmiya Bharosa and Indira Kranti Pathakams. However, hundreds who registered during the census are missing from the list, while others who are already employed or already possess ration cards have been included.
Approximately 300-400 residents registered for new ration cards during the census, yet only 40 names appear on the newly released list. The inclusion of individuals currently residing in Hyderabad and other areas, who only temporarily reside in Vantadapala, has further fueled the discontent.
Gram Panchayat officials have been besieged by angry villagers demanding explanations. Kamatam Venkanna, the Congress village president, highlighted the issue, stating that his name was missing despite having applied for a card during the census and having received confirmation stickers.
Velisala Yakayya, another villager, pointed out that many eligible farmers are missing from the list, while those already possessing ration cards or employment have been included. He urged authorities to rectify the errors and ensure that eligible residents receive their ration cards and welfare benefits.
Villagers have threatened further protests if their names are not added to the revised list. They are demanding action against the officials responsible for the inaccuracies.
