**CHENNAI, January 19, 2025** – Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay will meet villagers protesting against Chennai’s second airport project at Parandur on Monday. The meeting, coming nearly a year after Vijay launched his political party, follows criticism for his limited public engagement.
While police have granted permission, restrictions are in place. Vijay’s interaction will be confined to an indoor wedding hall in Ekanapuram, preventing him from visiting protesting villages directly. This decision, according to Kancheepuram district police, aims to prevent any disruption or untoward incidents.
The police imposed further conditions, including restrictions on attendance and traffic flow. Only a select group of senior TVK functionaries will be permitted to attend alongside Vijay, excluding other activists and outsiders. The party submitted a letter to authorities seeking permission for the event.
Villagers have been protesting the land acquisition for over 900 days, citing concerns about the project’s impact on wetlands. The meeting comes as a response to their sustained opposition.
